Crunchy pears in cinnamon and honey wine
 
Ingredients:

60ml/4tbsp white wine, vermouth or sherry
60ml/4tbsp honey
5ml/1tsp ground cinnamon
50g/2oz butter
100g/4oz wholemeal breadcrumbs
50g/2oz demerara sugar
4 ripe dessert pears

Method:

  1. In a jug, mix together the wine, honey and half of the cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a small pan, add the breadcrumbs, sugar and remaining cinnamon and stir together until evenly mixed. Set aside.
  3. Peel and halve the pears. Remove the cores. Arrange the pear halves, cut side down, in a greased ovenproof dish and pour over the white wine mixture.
  4. Sprinkle the pears evenly with the breadcrumb mixture and bake in the oven at 190°C/375°F mark 5 for 40 mins.
  5. Allow to cool and refrigerate until required. Transport to picnics in a plastic sealed container in a cool bag.
  6. Accompany with yogurt flavoured with grated orange rind.
