| The Federation, which we believe is in 'God's Own County', covers a large geographical area. It is sparsely populated and consists of mainly rural farmlands and market towns such as Skipton, Settle, Richmond, Hawes and Leyburn.
We also have the majestic spa town of Harrogate and the impressive grandeur of castles and stately homes nestling in the incomparable beauty of the Dales .
The headquarters are based in the cathedral city of Ripon at Alma House, named after a battle in the Crimea War. Here the federation secretary Alison is at the centre of a thriving, enthusiastic organisation.
Workshops and courses are held from September till June, often at Alma House, but sometimes in different settings to be accessible to more members and to make use of specialist facilities such as computer suites.
Our Crafts and Home Economics team organise certificates in all manner of things and regularly host prestigious events, with excellent demonstrators. The Arts and Leisure committee provide year round entertainment with darts tournaments, pub quizzes, literary events, theatre trips and holidays.
Public Affairs love to get involved with topical issues and it is a great delight that East Witton WI's resolution on 'Children's, diet exercise and health' is now a mandate. Membership and Marketing have the interests of our WIs at heart : the WI Advisers are always ready to give support or offer advice to everyone.
North Yorkshire West Federation has 100 Institutes who meet throughout the year in a variety of settings; each one is special in its own way and we are sure there is something for everyone who wishes to join us.
