National Bus Concession On 1 April a new England-Wide bus concession will be introduced that will enable those aged 60 or over and eligible disabled people the opportunity to travel on any local bus route in England, for free, during off-peak hours.
The new entitlement will give a potential 11.8 million people more freedom and independence, greater access to vital services such as hospitals and shops, and the opportunity to travel more economically when visiting friends and family living in other parts of England.
The national bus concession covers free off-peak local bus travel in England. It does not cover national coach travel or other modes of transport. However individual Local Travel Authorities are able to extend the travel benefits (such as to tubes, trains and taxi tokens) and offer additional local concessions (such as discounted leisure costs) to their residents at their discretion. These additional benefits will only be available to residents living in the Authority and not to visitors using their national bus concession.
People are advised to contact their local pass provider or visit www.direct.gov.uk/buspass for details of their national and local benefits or for more information on the national concession and eligibility. |
