EcoTeams
EcoTeam meeting of Aberporth WI members
Following a grant from Environment Wales, 14 members were trained as EcoTeam leaders at a training day in Carmarthen on 24 September 2007. Thirteen EcoTeams comprising of between three to eight members were established and met once a month over four months to explore shopping, food, transport, waste and energy in the home. They shared ideas and supported each other while taking simple, practical actions to learn about how climate change was directly linked to their daily lives.

The EcoTeam led by Ann Jones from Llanddewi Brefi is included as a case study on the Welsh Assembly Government DVD - Tackling Climate Change Together.  The DVD can be downloaded from the Sustain Wales website.

Are you interested in setting up or participating in an EcoTeam in your community? Our trained EcoTeam leaders from Ceredigion, Glamorgan and Sir Gâr/Carmarthenshire are available to support members from other Federations in setting up teams.  For more information or to get involved, please contact the NFWI-Wales Office on 029 2022 1712.

Gardening with Schools

Over 100 primary schools were supported by WI members to develop their schools gardens during spring 2006 and 2008.Catwg Primary School, Neath Port Talbot
The project was established by us to give children an opportunity to gain practical experience of creating vegetable and wildlife areas and to take part in activities such as planting and garden maintenance.
Case studies booklet

A case studies booklet featuring thirty-two of the gardens developed has been produced and hopefully this will inspire many more schools and community groups to develop gardens for the benefit of people’s health and wellbeing, as a place for children to learn and play and as a safe habitat for wildlife.

The booklet can be downloaded from the link on the right of this page. To receive a hard copy of the booklet please send an A4 SAE (78p) to NFWI-Wales, 19 Cathedral Road, Cardiff CF11 9HA.
