Women’s Institute Welcomes ‘End Violence Against Women’ Strategy
The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) today welcomed the launch of the ‘End Violence Against Women’ campaign (EVAW) template strategy for an integrated, cross-Government department approach which will help to end violence against women.
As part of the EVAW coalition, the NFWI recently launched its own campaign to encourage members to raise awareness of the issue around the country.
Fay Mansell, NFWI Chair said:
“The WI fully supports the coalition’s call for a cross-departmental Government strategy to end violence against women.
“Too often, violence against women has been seen as a taboo subject. Yet, as the largest women’s organisation in the UK, we hear from our members of their own personal experiences of violence. It is vital that the Government adopts these measures to ensure that women and girls are afforded their basic human right to live free from violence and its threat.
“Our recently launched campaign to end violence against women has seen WI members highlighting the issue of violence against women to their local communities at village fetes and county shows this summer. And later this year the WI will be starting new research on this issue.”
